They say it was a guy named "Victor" ************* No. There are many references to many different people that claim to have been the inventor of recorded sound. Even today we are still finding earlier examples. Most people credit Edison for inventing the phonograph but be only perfected it. "Victrola" was the brand name of the "Victor Talking Machine Company" phonograph. It only referred to Victor machines but they were the best quality and wildly popular so the name "Victrola" became a generic catch phrase for all phonographs.

I looked it up and i think the victrola was invented in 1912. ***** No. There are so many references as to who invented the first phonograph and when it was made. Even today more discoveries are made to older creations. Mid to late 1800's is about the time frame that recorded sound was being invented. Edison did not invent the phonograph. He perfected it. "Victrola" is the brand name of the "Victor Talking Machine Company" phonograph. The actual machine itself for all brands available was not named Victrola - only the Victor brands. They were referred to as phonographs, gramophones, talking machines and many others. "Victrola" is a generic term now used for most wind up phonographs and that's because the Victor company sold the most of them. They were wildly popular and very good quality machines with the best reproduction of sound. Many other companies produced phonographs but with cheap parts and sold at a lower price. Victor was always on the go trying to improve sound so their machines were the best.
