They were made from six corrugated iron sheets bolted together at the top, with steel plates at either end, and measured 6ft 6in by 4ft 6in (1.95m by 1.35m). The entrance was protected by a steel shield and an earthen blast wall.

Anderson shelters were small bomb shelters, they were not able to resist a direct hit by a bomb, but they did protect the occupants from flying debris and building collapse which was the main cause of death in the bombings.

They are not actually, because any Anderson shelter would be 70 years old by now. But they were somewhat strong, mostly because they were half buried in the ground and covered by earth. The corrugated steel formed an arch on top, but no measure of bomb-resistance should be expected from that.
