Cake balls have been around for years - it is basically the cake pops without the lolli stick in it. In 2011, Angie Dudley, better known as Bakerella reinvented the cake ball by putting it on a stick and then started experimenting with different shapes, colors and fun edible embellishments thus, the cake pop was born. Today it is a popular party dessert and favor with cake poppers around the world creating edible art on a stick!

I believe that Bakerella did, of Bakerella.com. If I'm wrong and she didn't invent them, then she certainly perfected them.
