Clothing has been around in one way or another since the beginning of man. Animal furs and natural materials were used to keep neolithic man warm. Once weaving and textiles were introduced during the industrial revolution the clothing industry took off and more elaborate coats and jackets were designed and made. Before that clothes were made from natural materials such as cotton, linen and wool. The first coat or jacket could have been designed an iron age man in a particularly bad winter when he needed an extra layer.
