The hand grenade was in existence but was quickly developed for use during WW1. Poison gases such as chlorine gas and mustard gas were first used in World War 1 although they had already been developed.

The first tanks were slow, cumbersome & very, very uncomfortable for the crew. They were mechanically unreliable & had very limited visibility. They were at first quite indomitable, there were no anti-tank guns as such. They achieved some success & were best used en masse. The tank comes of age in WW2: There is a massive difference from what was used in, say, 1939 to what had been developed by 1945. All tanks are a combination of 3 things: Armour, Firepower & Manouverability.
