If your silver dollar has scratches, dirt, or is dark colored it is circulated. If it has no scratches, is shiny, has no dirt, and looks new it is most likely uncirculated. Uncirculated silver dollars are worth more than circulated silver dollars. Many silver dollars are however circulated.
A circulated 1878 Morgan silver dollar can be worth 32 to 156 dollars.
If it has a blue seal it is worth 8 to 10 dollars in circulated condition and 18 dollars or more in uncirculated condition. If it has a red seal it is worth 4 to 9 dollars circulated and 12 dollars or more uncirculated.
A 1898 Indian head penny in circulated condition is worth 1 to around 23 dollars in circulated condition. These coins are not rare.

All circulated half dollars dated 1971 and later are worth face value only. They're made of copper-nickel and don't contain any silver.
In circulated condition they are worth 3 to 90 dollars depending on the condition. If they are of a low circulated grade they are worth worth 115 to 660 dollars. In high uncirculated grade they are worth up to 4,490 dollars but it is extremely unlikely you get this much for it if you sell it.
