The first small electric light bulb was invented in 1860 by Joseph Swan.
Prior to that Humphrey Davy had demonstrated a crude electric light, which is more of a precursor to the flourescent light strips we find in offices today, in 1809.
William Reid Clanny developed a safety lamp for miners in 1813, which was inspiration for Davy's more well-known Davy Lamp.
