It probably won't be. In January 2013 Venus will be setting about an hour before the sun does, so it won't be visible in the evening. Your best chance to observe it would be in the morning, about an hour before sunrise, look East and you might catch a glimpse of it coming over the horizon before daybreak.
The planet Venus is known for: • its enormous size • being the evening star - you can see it just before sunrise and just after sunset • its thick atmosphere • being the hottest planet • having toxic yellow clouds • named after the Roman goddess Venus • being right next to Earth
The two brightest stars near the Moon are usually the planets Venus and Jupiter. Venus is often referred to as the "evening star" when it is visible after sunset, and Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system.
Venus is called the morning star.
As of the end of February, 2009, the new Moon is passing by Venus, otherwise the brightest object in the western sky after sundown. (They were about 1.5 degrees apart on the evening of Feb. 27th, an event generally called a "conjunction".) Looked at another way, the Earth is the star or planet nearest to the Moon.
The bright celestial object next to the Moon in the southern sky in December 2008 was likely the planet Venus. Venus is one of the brightest objects in the night sky and is often visible near the Moon, especially during its evening appearances.
When considering distance from the sun, the planet that come after Mercury is Venus.
It's complicated... If (say) Venus is visible in a certain month, that doesn't mean it will be visible the next year in the same month - since the movements of the other planets are not synchronized with Earth's movement.
The planet that can be seen next to the Moon with the naked eye is usually Venus. Venus is often referred to as the "evening star" or "morning star" depending on its position relative to the Sun and can appear quite bright in the night sky.
