When will clearwire be in San Diego?

June at the earliest. Maybe never. There are no signs that Clear is testing a network in San Diego. In LA and New York, 4G phones started working many months before the official rollout, as the nodes got built and turned on for testing. There are no areas of San Diego that have seen 4G coverage, even briefly, and so it seems that even if San Diego was in the process of getting WiMax, it will be at least 4-6 months before it would go live. If the process has not even started, well, then, we are looking at a long time.

Clearwire needs a heavy dose of additional funding to finish its next round of expansion of the WiMax network, and if Sprint pulls the plug it might not get the money it needs. If that happens, Sprint might start transitioning to LTE, and support WiMax only in the cities where it already exists. Sprint's head hinted last year that it was not tied to WiMax and could switch if market conditions changed.
