Through personal experience, there are two main things that cause challenges in relationships: not knowing that person well enough before you date, and getting bored with that person.
By not knowing them well, the progress of the relationship could end up good, but surprises aren't always a good thing. He or she could be the sweetest at first, but once they are comfortable, they may become someone you are not attracted to at all.
Another problem could be that once you get to know that person well, things slow and get boring. One of you or both of you could potentially start noticing more interesting things elsewhere.
This is why you have to know who that person is and know that person is interesting to you to know if that person would be a good match for you. Otherwise, challenges could come up in the relationship, and who knows if you can overcome that challenge?
