You can turn to Guru Granth Sahib for guidance at any time. Every day in every Gurudwara, Guru granth Sahib Prakash is done in the early morning and "Hukamnama" is taken. This "Hukamnama" is considered as the order of GOD for your daily life. Any Sikh has to spend his whole day as per the "Hukamnama".

Why do Sikhs carry the guru granth sahib over their head?

The Guru Granth Sahib is a living Guru and must be treated with respect. The Guru Granth Sahib is carried over ones head as a sign of respect. A Guru Granth Sahib usually has a bedroom or resting area in any Gurdwara. If a Guru Granth Sahib is kept at home it must be placed in the highest room in a house. It would be totally unacceptable to find a Guru Granth Sahib in a library for example. Hope this helps

Why do Sikh's believe their holy book is important?

Guru Granth Sahib Ji (the Sikhs holy book) contains the actual spoken words by the Sikh Gurus and thus those Words themselves are now the Guru of Sikhs. Furthermore, Sikhs consider Guru Granth Sahib Ji as the Living Embodiment of Guru for the same reason. Sikhs don't treat Guru Granth Sahib Ji as Holy Book but as a Living Guru. Also, the 10th Guru, Guru Gobing Singh Ji, announced himself that out final guru would be the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

What is the sikhist version of the Bible?

The Guru Granth Sahib is a book similar to our bible but there are several significant differences. Firstly our bible is the documentation of God and of Jesus and of creation and Jesus's and his disciples lives. The Guru Granth Sahib is considered to host God and the Gurus. The Guru Granth Sahib is seen as a living Guru and is treated with much reverence, Christians would happily find a copy of the bible in the library or for sale on the Internet. To Sikh persons this would be highly offensive. The Guru Granth Sahib is treated as a living Guru. It has its own bedroom/rest room within the Gurdwara (Sikh temple) and is placed there every evening and brought out every morning. It is attended when it is in the temple and is fanned and protected from the heat as you would a person.

Because guru means teacher and the tenth (last) guru said there would be no more human guru's but the book was just the same as him so they called it guru because they rely on it when they have problems in it.

The tenth Guru will never return. Before he died, he announced that there was no need for any more Gurus. He believed that the Guru Granth Sahib would continue to help people who needed guiding. Nowadays, the Guru Granth Sahib (Sikh Holy Book) is now considered as the 11th Guru.
