After installing the game and/or any expansion packs (whether CD or digital) the game will update itself to the most recent version next time you run the launcher. Any changes made which are processed through patches will be delivered automatically every time you start the game.
Sometimes, content can be downloaded and installed while you are playing, which you can see on the launcher. If you have a progress bar in yellow or green, it means content is downloaded in the background. When it's in the red, it means these are critical updates that need to be applied before the game can run.
When World of Warcraft: Cataclysm hits the shelves and goes live on the servers, it will be the LATEST expansion. There are more planned, however Blizzard has not released any information about those expansion as of yet. It will be sometime before the next one is ready.
It is impossible to downpatch (ie use a lesser patch number than is currently available) World of Warcraft. The client will automatically update to the latest version when you try to log into the live servers.
It will be released in a patch a little before Cataclysm hits. It is currently on the PTR (Test Realm), but blizzard has said it will not be activated live until right before Cataclysm hits, and it will not be a permanent thing either. It will disappear either when cat hits, or shortly thereafter.

This is currently (9/25/2010) unknown as you can not be a level 85 anything on the live servers. On beta servers, it is best not to say what is the best way to do something because Blizzard has not finalized its damage and healing numbers, and probably will not until Cataclysm comes out.
You have to live near the company (ex. california) and you have to put an application in to be a GM.

You can not be a GameMaster (GM) in World of Warcraft on the official servers. GameMasters are paid Blizzard employees trained to provide support in the game. To be a GameMaster, you need to live near Blizzard's headquarters as that is the only place that you can access GM powers from.
