There are many groups who are/have been engaged in research regarding near-death experiences. These groups claim that there have been many situations where people in life threatening situations or recovering from a state called clinical death have reported that they experienced such phenomenons. The reports suggest that people, who recovered from a near death, experienced such phenomenon as floating away from their body, the presence of light, the feeling of joy and freedom etc. Some people have also reported having fearful/terrifying experiences.

People who have come very close to death, but have recovered, have often reported that they saw a very bright light, but scientists don't know whether this is a result of a biological process or a result of something supernatural.
