We have zero justification to believe in heaven or its corollary. And while this may strike you as a very frightening proposition, comfort yourself that no hell awaits you for making a minor mistake or for the belief in the wrong deity. If your mother has passed, she is at peace, and certainly without the pain of this world. The passing of a loved one is painful, but it is certainly an understood aspect of the human condition. We live and we die - what we do for others in this interim period is what defines us as human.
