Best Answer

ok well a weight is a force. therefore F=ma (force=massXacceleration)

the weight of something (F) is equal to its mass times acceleration (9.8(gravity))

What does weight mean in science terms?

In science, the weight of an object is the force on the object due to gravity.

Does mass and weight tell how much matter is in an object?

Mass and weight are both capable of telling you how much matter is in an object, it just depends on what other information you have. For instance if you have weight then you will also need to know the gravity and the density of atoms per gram of this object. If you know mass which is different from weight then you will only need to know the density of the object.

What does measure the force of gravity acting on an object mean?

Type your answer here... it means that measure the weight of object.Because weight of an object =force of gravity acting on it

Does An object's buoyant force and weight mean the same thing?

no because buoyant means how much can an object float and weight means how much it weighs.

What does it mean to know the mass of an object?

it means that you found the mass of an object.

A measure of the force of gravity on an object?

Weight The force of gravity on an object is its weight. If we know the mass of the object, and the acceleration due to gravity we can calculate the weight of an object as follows weight= mass x acceleration due to gravity W=mg Units : newtons (because weight is a force) Example: Given an object on the surface of the earth Mass of the object=1 kg acceleration due to gravity on the surface of the earth is approximately 9.8m/s2 -->W=mg=1x9.8=9.8 newtons

How do you know if an object's mechanical energy is equal to it's potential energy that it has no kinetic energy?

Because of the weight of an object

What does weight mean how is it measured?

Mass is the quantity of matter in an object. If an object is subject to an accelerating force, then it has weight. Your weight on the Moon will be about one-seventh of that on the Earth. Because of its much lower gravitational force.

What happends if the weight of an object is greather than the weight of the water?

I assume you mean "What happens if the weight of an object is greater than the weight of the water it displaces." If so, the answer is simple, it sinks. If an objects weighs less than the weight of the water it displaces, it floats.

Is the weight of an object the frictional force on the object?

No the weight of an object has nothing to do with friction. Weight is the gravitational attraction of the object and the planet.
