When you make a new page you want to link things on it to another page without it coming up on the homepage how do you do that?

Just upload that new page using FTP then update your sitemap so that it get included in your sitemap. If it gets listed in your sitemap then Search bots can crawl this page no matter if it is not linked from home page.
[ It is always better to have link home page to all inner pages ( though they are not direct) ]
