Most computers should automatically recognize your iPod as a drive, anyway, without iTunes.
If iTunes doesnt show the iPod there isn't a lot that you can do with putting music on it. The only way to put music on it and listen to it is that you use iTunes.
if it doesnt recognize ur ipod simply drag the songs from ur imesh library to ur itunes library. some songs wont work but most will. after just sync ur ipod with itunes and you'll get the songs you want
Try re-installing your Itunes cause mine used to do that and it worked when I uninstalled Itunes and then Re-installed it. If that doesnt work i dont know.

To have the iPod Touch show up on your computer, just plug in the iPod Touch while it is on. The computer should automatically recognize the iPod Touch whether it is a PC or not. If it does not automatically recognize the iPod Touch, then just open iTunes (version 8.0 or later).
Download a free app of the app store called mobile mouse lite and plug in your ipod into your computer and itunes will recognize the app and it will pop up with your ipod on the screen
