When you purchase a gun and they call in the background check does that register the gun to you?

The answer is no, at least in most states, it doesn't register the gun to you. However, it is possible to I.D. the original purchaser from when it was sold new, and any other purchasers, if the purchases were made through gun stores, within a certin number of years. (I work at a shooting range, and we are required by law to keep records for, I believe, 25 years, but I'm not sure, because I don't work behind the counter. I'm an instructor). There are a few individual states, such as California, that require registration, but most state do not.
