Dismount, if you haven't already. With an English saddle, slide the stirrup irons up the stirrup leathers and tuck them so they won't come loose. With a western style saddle, you may wish to hook the off stirrup over the horn, but this isn't 100% necessary.

Then undo the girth from the near side. If you are being slow and neat, walk around to the off side and put the girth over the saddle. Otherwise, just grab the pommel and the cantel and lift/pull the saddle off gently. If you didn't put the girth over the saddle yet, grab it as it comes over the horse's back and sling it over the saddle. Make sure all the cinches are undone and any other tack and that the horse is either tyed or hobbled.

When you remove the horses saddle you have to.what?

When you remove the saddle from your horse, you simply loosen the cinch (or girth depending on where you live), put the off-side (left) stirrup and cinch over the saddle horn (or drape the stirrup leather over the seat if using an English saddle), and lift or slide the saddle off of your horse's back. When you've gotten the saddle off, it's a good idea to give your horse a good brushing to keep him comfortable. When you don't even know how to take the saddle off you really don't need to be riding!

To put a chest on a horse, first ensure the horse is calm and properly secured. Place the saddle pad on the horse's back, followed by the saddle. Then, attach the breastplate or chest strap by securing it to the saddle and adjusting it to fit snugly without restricting the horse's movement. Finally, check that all fittings are secure and comfortable for the horse.
