Speed has nothing to do with where you are. You can travel below the speed of sound pretty much anywhere.

What bullets travel faster than the speed of sound?

Almost all of them. The question is, what bullets travel SLOWER than the speed of sound? They're called "subsonic" bullets, and special operations units buy them for their silenced guns.

What's difference between subsonic and supersonic?

Subsonic is below or slower than the speed of sound, and supersonic is above or faster than the speed of sound.

Why doesn't a subsonic aircraft produce a sonic boom?

A subsonic aircraft doesn't produce a sonic boom because it is subsonic, and cannot produce enough speed to do so. A sonic boom is created when an aircraft becomes supersonic, accelerating past the speed of sound. Since it is traveling near the speed of sound at this time, the sound waves build up around it, finally traveling through the air as it is left behind by the aircraft.

Why is it that a subsonic aircraft cannot produce a sonic boom?

Because a sonic boom is caused when an object passes the speed of sound.

What is the speed of a nuclear weapon?

I do not understand your question. Do you mean the speed of its shockwave? That is supersonic. Do you mean the speed of its x-rays and gamma rays? That is the speed of light. Do you mean the speed of its fallout? That depends on wind speeds. Do you mean the speed of its delivery vehicle? Is that a bomber? Subsonic. Is that an ICBM? Roughly orbital velocity. Is that a cruise missile? Subsonic. Is that an artillery shell? Supersonic. Is that an antisubmarine depth bomb? Slow. Or do you mean some other speed? A more precisely worded question will help get a more precise answer.

Does mach 0.5 correspond to supersonic speed?

One half the speed of sound. This is subsonic.

What does the term subsonic refer to?

The term subsonic can refer to speed that's lower than the speed of sound. In computer terms, this could mean an open source media server or refer to programming code.

What best describes a flight approaching the speed of sound?
