when it malfunctions the charger is broken on the inside put it back. i had the same problem and i tried everything then i took it to a shop which checked it and said it was broken on the inside and they were right so i opened the wire up and put it back together then it started working again. this happens by taking your charger everywhere you go and twisting of the wire
If their is an software on the laptop like battery life extender remove it to fix the problem they don't make a difference anyway other than they make it slower

∙ 14y agoThe battery might have gone bad. Also try to remove the battery and reinstall it again, bad contacts can cause it to. The power adapter has to be checked to. You will have to use a multimeter to check the voltage and the current. You need to measure both and compare with values written on the power adapter itself.

∙ 11y agoPlugged in not charging this is the problem you get when the laptop battery is over heated or not functioning properly. I would recommend to practice safe battery charging tips.
- Charge the battery once to the fullest, and then drain it to at least 5% to charge it again. Use it completely.
- No constant battery charging, if possible, do not charge battery while working.
- And there are so many tips to follow while charging laptop battery.

∙ 14y agoThis is something quite common with Dell laptop - the problem is your charger. It seems that microcontroller or wiring in your charger is defective. I am not entirely sure as to why the charger can provide power and not charge but it is probably something to do with Dell design.
Most likely, you will have to buy another Dell charger online. Remember not to buy a universal charger as the "plugged in, not charging" problem will also occur.
i would recommend buying laptop chargers from Topmic.com because they offer lifetime warranty and free shipping to all laptop chargers at a good price. I think that with the benefits of warranty and shipping, it is definitely worth it to buy chargers from them.

∙ 13y agoMy charger was broken. The green light was on but the electricity was not actually getting to my battery. That was why I had to buy a new charger before my battery would actually charge.
