there is no need for an engine oil drain plug, because when the oil filter is removed and the oil is drained from the oil tank (by way of the oil tank drain hose located by/under the battery box) there is no oil that remains in the engine.
Not sure about a 1200, but on a 1988 sportster 883 its behind the sealed beam headlamp bulb.
If its anything like my 1996 1200 it should take three qts for the engine and one qt for the primary.
The heads, valves, and pistons are different. They also changed carburetors in 1988 to CV, which is the first year for the 1200.

No, the engine mounts are totally different. The six cylinder 1500 engine will definitely not fit into the 1200 frame calculated for a four cylinder engine. Experts don't think this has ever been attepmted.
Should be right at 3 quarts
YOU drain the engine oil from the rubber tube just under the battery tray. THERE is a plug built into the underside of the tray. ....Have a few rags under the bike ...this can get MESSY. Alan
