True, real "cabbages" don't grow on trees; but I am from south Florida, and you may just be referring to what we call "swamp cabbage," found at the "heart" of our sabal palm trees (some call it cabbage palm). It is quite edible, boiled like cabbage; and in fact there is an annual "Swamp Cabbage Festival" out in the Everglades; I'm sure you can find it online.
