Fish have ears on either side of their heads, but you can't see them. If a person were to cut a fish's head open, you'd find two white oval shaped "stones" with ridges on them. These are called the otoliths or ear stones. They function only slightly for hearing. Mostly they're used for balance and pressure. The line running down the side of a fish, the lateral line, is also very sensitive to pressure changes and water movement. It functions as a second set of ears in several ways.
