What do the humpback whales feed on?

There main prey is Krill, Crab and Fish. Like a lot of whales, their favorite is Krill. Krill is consumed in mass quantities are is prime source of food.

Where is the humpback whales ecosystem?

They are part of two major ecosystems. The main one that includes all land, air and water animals. The second one is the marine ecosystem. Humpback Whales play key role in both systems as they interrelated and interdependent on each other.

What are the predators of the humpback whale?

No. Adult humpbacks have no natural predators. Man has severely affected humpback whale populations by killing them for years. Though they are big and strong, they are no match to the weapons and the powerful harpoons that humans created. That is why, Man is the biggest threat to these whales

Is a shark a predator to hmpback whales?

Not particularly, considering most sharks will go after a school of fish over a whale they won't be eating thoroughly although it can attack a whale if it wants to, but whales are not their main source of food. The reason I'm not only saying anything about humpback whales is because there are other whales out there that will face the same situation as one another when encountering a shark. I'm not sure if I'm right about any of this but this is some of what I learned about sharks. Sharks in general are not predators to humpback whales or other species of whale.

What kind of whales do whalers hunt?

Whales are killed by techniques of high powered rifles or electric shock. Whales take up to 30 minutes to die.

Where are whales in the food chain?

It largely depends on the whale. Toothed whales (such as the Sperm and Killer whales) are usually considered to be apex predators. Due to their size and hunting strategies their only main predator is humans (who are usually disregarded from such systems). Baleen whales (such as the Humpback and Blue whales) cannot be considered such as, though they are often protected by their immense size, their young are regularly hunted by other large predators, especially the toothed whales.

What is the difference between a blue whale and a humpback whale?

First off Killer whales are odontocetes, or toothed whales, meaning literally "whales that have teeth", where as the blue whale and the humpback whale are balleen whales, instead of teeth, they have long rough strands of balleen in their mouth, made out of the same material as a human fingernail. Killer whales may get up to 25 feet long and weigh up to 12,000 pounds of more, males are usually larger than females. Humpback whales can get up to 60 feet long and weigh up to 83,000 pounds, females are usually larger. Blue Whales are the largest animals to have ever lived, even larger than the largest dinosaurs, they average 90-100 feet in length, and can weigh up to 400,000 pounds! Seeing as how both the Blue Whale and Humback Whales are Balleen whales, they feed primarily on microscopic organisms such as krill and plankton. Killer whales, depending on the population they belong to, will eat Salmom, Herring, Sharks, Birds, Seals, SeaLions, Turtles, Stingrays, and even other Whales and dolphins.

What do blue whales fear?

A young humpback (calf) would fear orca, the main predator of the calves. Orca grow to over 30 feet and are quite the ambitious hunter, seen taking grey whale calves with some planning and quick execution. They love to eat the tongues! Adult humpbacks have very large and heavy tails (flukes), which are their main weapons, and they use them efficiently, smacking the water or perhaps attempting to hit any predator (including sharks in breeding grounds) coming close to them or their calves.

What are whales preditors?

Adult humpbacks have no natural predators. Man has severely affected humpback whale populations by killing them for years. By the 19th century, many nations (USA in particular), were hunting the animal heavily in the Atlantic Ocean, and to a lesser extent in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This widespread hunting sharply reduced whale populations. It is estimated that during the 20th century, at least 200,000 humpbacks were taken, reducing the global population by over 90%, with North Atlantic populations estimated to have dropped to as low as 700 individuals. To prevent extinction, the International Whaling Commission banned commercial humpback whaling in 1966. By that time the population had been reduced to around 5,000. That ban is still in forcesharks

Why are the killer whales becoming extinct?

Only some whales and seals have become so reduced in population as to be classified as endangered. Most species were hunted commercially for products such as oil in the case of whales, and fur in the case of seals. Some countries commercially hunt these animals today. Overfishing of these animals' food stocks and water pollution pose additional threats. This is wrong Bigg Gee x

What are the enemies of the beluga whale?

Polar Bears and Killer Whales (Orca) are the two main predators of the beluga whale. Polar bears take particular advantage of situations when belugas become trapped by ice and are thus unable to reach the ocean. The bears swipe at the belugas and drag them onto the ice. The killer whale is its other significant natural predator.

What wildlife live in antarctica?

In Antarctica there are many separate species of animal but few of the main animals are seabirds, whales, plankton and penguins. Hope that helps its a bit vague! Edit: Adelie, emperor, chinstrap, and gentoo penguins nest there and petrels and skuas can be found in the sky. Albatrosses, sheathbills, fulbars, terns, cormoants, and gulls add to the bird population. Baleen whales and killer whales (orca) make meals out of the penguins and krill in the area. South right whales, the humpback, minke, fin, blue, and sperm whale also populate the area. the southern elephant seal, crabeater, weddel, ross, leopard, and fur seal have been found in Antarctica as well. Polar bears are in the area but are at the moment being threatened by global warming and loss of habitat.
