Stalactites are found on the ceiling of caves and are made by the dripping of water enriched with calcium, from the cracks in the ceiling. when the calcium precipitates from the water it leaves calcium and the water drops down to start the formation of stalagmites that are created in the same process but are created by the water dripping off of stalactites.
:) hope this helped
In a Cave
The formations are called stalactites and stalagmites.

Ground water, mineral deposits, and stalactites
Stalactites are calcium deposits that stem from the ceiling of a cave.
Stalactites are found hanging from the roof of a cave, as opposed to stalagmites, which grow up from the floor. Remembering the difference is easy - stalactites are "tite" to the ceiling!
what does it mean when someone says stalactites stem from the ceiling of a cave
Stalactites
Stalactites.
They grow from the roof of the cave, downward.
Stalactites and stalagmites are corresponding rock formations , stalactites being the ones on the roof of the cave and stalagmites the ones on the cave floor. Why are they formed? They are formed because water leaking into the caves craves out the rocks slowly into stalagmites and stalactites.
