Scouting and Guiding in Germany is very fragmented with about 150 different associations and federations. They own little property but extensively use national parks and forests.

Generally a patrol of six or eight Scouts- girls and boys -sleep in a big black tent called a kohte with an open fire in the middle.

In Germany, the WAGGGS organization is called Ring Deutscher Pfadfinderinnenverbände (RDP). Three Guide/Scout organizations belong to the RDP in Germany:

  • Bund der Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinder (BdP)
  • Verband Christlicher Pfadfinderinnen und Pfadfinder (VCP)
  • Pfadfinderinnenschaft Sankt Georg (PSG)

All three organizations have a Guide Promise although, the VCP does not have one uniform promise, instead, on admission, the individual declares her readiness for co-operation and acknowledges the common working group rules.

All three organizations work on encouraging their members to develop as individuals, to be involved in their communities, and to develop leadership skills.
