As with all other cars, the head gasket is located between the head and the block.
intake gaskets are between the head and intake. head gaskets are between the head and the block..
there is no reason to pull the head to get at the oil pump.
i was told that they do, except for the 3.1 definitely the 3.4

Purchase a Chilton Auto Repair Manual, and follow the instructions. Remember to take your time and get all of the gaskets you will need to do the work. Head, Valve, Pleneum, and possibly the Exuast Maniflod Gaskets.
Head gaskets are supposed to last the life of the engine. There is no "care" specific to head gaskets.
Any head gasket can blow......but to be honest the 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 aren't really known for blown head gaskets. Sure it happens, but the biggest problem with some of the late 90s early 2000s was a weak lower intake manifold gasket. Not the head gaskets.
