Because the ruins are ancient and you need to see to appreciate it
Yes. You can see e.g., the (ruins of )Colosseum in Rome and an almost intact colosseum in Pula (Croatia). There are several more on the territory of the former Roman Empire.
The ruins in Rome are examples of that. The ruins of the Roman forum and the Colosseum are still standing, along with other buildings and columns. Other European cities have ruins in them, from the time of the Roman Empire, as well.
Lazio is the modern name for Latinum, the area in which the city of Rome is located. There are too many ruins to mention. The ruins of the Roman forum, the Pantheon, the Colosseum and all the other ancient buildings are all there. There are also many tombs and villas and the famous Via Appia.Lazio is the modern name for Latinum, the area in which the city of Rome is located. There are too many ruins to mention. The Colosseum is between the Palatine, Cealian and Esquiline hills, at the bottom of the imperial fora (plural of forum), and by the Arch of Constantine and the Circus Maximus in the city of Rome.
The Roman Colosseum was dedicated by the emperor Titus in 80 AD CE. The ruins of this amphitheater can still be seen in modern day Rome. These ruins are about 1,933 years old.
The capitalized spelling Colosseum is used for the ruins of the Flavian Amphitheater in Rome. This is one of the ways it is spelled when used for other structures, along with "coliseum."
Yes, the Roman Colosseum had a subsystem of basements. These included prisoner cells and animal pens. There were trap doors in the floor of the Colosseum so wild animals could be let loose. These rooms are now visible in the ruins of the Colosseum, since the floor has collapsed. See this picture: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/be/Colosseum.jpg
Rome (Vatican, St Peter's Basilica, Colosseum, The Pantheon, ruins of Forum Romanum, etc).
No the colosseum is in the same location it has been in since it was built. However, it's location in on a estate built by Nero. The colosseum is on what was an artificial lake on the grounds of the Nero palace. In recent years they have uncovered parts of the Nero palace and it is now open for tours. The Temple of Venus was located in the forum across the street from the colosseum. You can see the ruins when you visit the forum.
