All these are looking into the engine compartment from the front with the hood up.
In a 4 cylinder they are on the right side just above the exhaust.
In a 6 cyl they are going down both sides and are above the exhaust manifold.
Same in a V8.
Look on the right front of engine and you can see the distributor. Just follow the wires to the spark plugs and pull off the caps. Just dont pull on the wires when you get there pull on the caps.
It always has the same number of spark plugs as it has cylinders. If it a 6 cylinder it has 6 plugs. If it's an 8 cylinder it has 8 plugs. If it's a 4 cylinder it has 4 plugs. Toyota doesn't make a 4 cylinder 4Runner.
It is probably your spark plugs misfiring.
I heard you have to take half the motor apart to get to them.
For replacement plugs, it is recommended to use stock Toyota Denso spark plugs. They are dual electrode and pre-gapped at 0.044". If the engine has been modified, the type and gap on the plugs may vary depending the modification and desired performance.
