The hypothalamus influences the autonomic centers in the brain stem and the spinal cord. In this way it regulates many Visceral activites such as heart rate, blood pressure respiratory rate and motility of digestive tract
medulla oblongata
Medulla Oblongata
The lower part of the brain that contains centers more vital to life is the brainstem. It includes important structures such as the medulla oblongata, which controls essential functions like breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. Additionally, the brainstem controls other vital activities such as swallowing, digestion, and body temperature regulation.
cerebellum
Most of the vital systems in our body are controlled in the brainstem.
There are three vital centers in the medulla which control the heartbeat, the rate of breathing, andthe diameter of the blood vessels. Centers that help coordinate swallowing, vomiting, hiccoughing, coughing, and sneezing are also located in the medulla.
It contains centers that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, swallowing (and vomiting), among others.

Visceral refers to any large organ within a body cavity (although it is most frequently used in reference to the abdomen).

Death means the absence of vital functions.Death is diagnoosed by permenant sessation of heart beat.Brain death is defined as permanent functionall death of the centers in the brain stem that control breathing, heart rate, and other vital reflexes.
