Of course you can attend a boarding school in a town other than that in which you live. Boarding schools are independent and can accept anyone that meets their admission criteria, whatever that criteria may be (and it varies widely). The one point that is of most concern to most people is that your parents must pay taxes to support your local public school district regardless of whether you attend that high school or not. If you attend a boarding school, either as a boarder or day student, your parents will in effect will be paying double for your education. If you family is affluent or if you are awarded a full or even partial scholarship this issue becomes moot.
This might not be an option for the area you live in, but I had a similar situation where I wanted to attend one highschool but due to my location would be enrolled in a different highschool. I was able to attend my desired school by completing an intra-district transfer. If you haven't already, try talking to the people in the administrative office at the school you want to attend.
