A good resource for researching and purchasing new and used pick up trucks is http://www.pickuptrucks.com/. There are also trucks available here for under $5000.00, http://autos.aol.com/gallery/used-car-lot/.
a C1500 is a half-ton pickup, a C20 was a 3/4 ton. Chevrolet half ton trucks used to be called C10s.
Ford currently lists 5 models in the truck category, however 2 of them are designed more as vans than as pickup trucks. The pickup truck versions are the Ranger, F-150 and Super Duty. The other 2 versions are the E-Series and Transit Connect. They also have 3 commercial pickup trucks (F-250, F-350 and F-450) .
Class 3 is pretty much a one ton pickup. You'd probably need 115 or 116 trucks.
This really becomes a personal opinion, as the best small pick-up trucks are different for everyone. I would choose Ford or Mazda; while someone else might say Dodge or Chevy. You should just pick a bunch and go take them on a test drive to see what you like best. However, some sites that have done reviews that you can check out are: (1)http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/rankings/Compact-Pickup-Trucks/ (2)http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/vehicle-truck-buying-guides-cga.htm (3)http://www.consumersearch.com/pickup-trucks

Diesel trucks could be anything from a Nissan Hardbody pickup all the way up to off-highway dump trucks of the sort used in rock quarries and such... you need to narrow down your criteria here, maybe give an idea of what you're talking about (e.g., 3/4 ton pickup, 1 ton pickup, 26k GVW moving van, semi tractor, etc.).
