Consider the ability/knowledge of your audience The written part of the report should be clear and concise. It should not be too long - perhaps put some of it into appendices Include tables and graphs where they will enhance the report This is my answer to this question I was asked in an interview. Any further ideas would be wecome Jim

Assuming you've read the book (you did read it, right?), there's plenty of fail-safes to write on. Choosing one of the themes is usually a good choice, or you can pick some aspect about the book to write about (like the time period or the political situation or something) and talk about how the book deals with it. Another way you can approach it is to discuss a common motif or archetype in the book-- like maybe there's an orphan that turns out to be "the chosen one" (see Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc etc). Or you could compare characters that are foils for one another, that is, two characters that have similar roles but are basically opposites at the same time. Like there might be two dudes that are going after the same girl and one is handsome but cold and the other is kind of rough looking but passionate (see St. John and Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre). There's tons of options. Just don't summarize the book for the whole paper! Especially if everyone's doing the same one. Your teacher will be bored and that usually means a bad grade.
