Many people try to save on navigation systems by purchasing a cheap GPS. While a cheap GPS system may provide basic routing, it's important to understand some of the limitations of a cheap GPS system. GPS navigation systems are designed to receive signals from specialized satellites in the sky. Since the signal from these satellites is very weak, a GPS receiver must be designed to effectively hold these signals. In many cases, a cheap GPS system will offer poor satellite reception. This may mean that a GPS won't work when there are obstructions in the sky. These obstructions can include tall buildings, trees, mountains, a vehicle roof and more. It's important to make sure that one buys a GPS navigation system that has good reception.
