I have done the research and here are some online websites that can help you find a catalytic converter www.autopartswarehouse.com/catalytic_converters~pop.html
As long as the vehicle is kept in good running order the catalytic converter should last the life of the vehicle.
on my lancer there are 2 fitted, i found them both at the parts bin online, but i am not sure how you tell which one is no good
Look that is plausable but the real answer is that the engine is dumping raw fuel into the converter (catalytic converter) and burning it inside the converter and this can be dangerous in some cases you can actually have a mini explosion\fire causing a good bit of damage. I hope this is helpful to anyone needing the answer..
A quality aftermarket catalytic converter will work fine as long as everything else is in good working order.
If you remove a catalytic converter, you are breaking the law. It is a $2500 fine. It will not run right anyway, because of the oxygen sensor after the catalytic system. You are just going to get horrible fuel mileage if the cat is removed, and a check engine light that is annoying as hell.
To replace the catalytic converter on a 2002 Lexus IS300, first, safely lift and secure the vehicle. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, then remove the exhaust pipes connected to the catalytic converter using appropriate tools, such as a socket set. Unbolt the old catalytic converter from its mounting points and replace it with the new one, ensuring all gaskets are in good condition. Reassemble everything by reversing the disassembly steps, and reconnect the battery before starting the vehicle to check for leaks.
Not likely because: Code p0420 refers to a problem with your catalytic converter. The engine computer is able to test that converter by using an oxygen sensor before and after the converter. The computer can only test the converter under very specific driving conditions. If the computer determines that it is a good time to test the catalytic converter it will run the test. It compares the oxygen sensor readings in front of the converter to the readings behind the converter to see if the catalytic converter is functioning properly. If it is not functioning properly it will trigger a p0420. Sometimes if a catalytic converter is on the virge of failing it may fail one test and pass the next. This will cause your check engine light to come off and on every once in a while when the test is performed.
A properly operating catalytic converter should be hotter at the outlet side after a good drive.
it is located approx, under passengers floorboard in front. good-day !
The catalytic converter is a sealed unit and must be replaced completely. A good mechanic or a shop that specializes in exhaust systems can do the job. If the entire exhaust pipe doesn't need replacing, the converter itself can be cut out of the existing exhaust pipe and a new one fitted in.
Yes, the Taurus can run without the catalytic converter--it is not necessarily good for the engine, but disconnecting it will cause it to fail emissions testing. If you've seen the Honda Civics running around smoking like a factory, this is caused by no electrolytic converter. The O2 sensor could be in the exhaust pipe between the manifold and converter.
loss of power under a oad is a good indication of a clogged catalytic converter
