I highly advise not to buy any of the Kyocera Slider phones (if you can even find'em). First of all I've heard about software issues with them, problems with accepting 1gb+ SD Flash cards, although I didn't experience those problems specifically. Mine worked fine with the 1gb flash memory, but not the 2. I've owned two KX5's (the cheapie version of the Slider-Sonic) and they have both 'crapped out on me' in the exact same way. The first one lasted me about a year and the second one barely 6 months. The problem is the internal earpiece goes out so you can't hear the caller (although) they can hear you - and don't think headphones are the answer. When you plug an external earpiece in, then you can hear the caller but they can't hear you! What kinda f'd up engineering feat is that? Once the 'syndrome' occurs you can only have a conversation on speaker which can be a real pain in the ass. No wonder VM has taken these phones off their website. In fact I can't find any MP3 phone up there whatsoever so I'm taking a chance on a VM MP3 phone I found at Best Buy called the Shuttle. Can't figure out who manufactures it but compared to the cheap plastic feel of the Kyocera phones, it seems much more sturdy and solid. It's also thinner, has bluetooth, just a way better phone - and should be for the extra $40. Btw, just read some reviews and discovered it has a full year warranty, as opposed to the crappy 30-warranty on the Kyoceras. And to answer your question, no you don't need a USB cord to transfer video and MP3's back and forth between your phone and computer, if you're using a modern laptop.
