Excluding cars built primarily for a racetrack and using figures from apparently reliable magazies: 1. Fastest to 60 mph (about 100 kph): 1558 cc Big Valve Lotus 7 or Caterham 7 - about 6.2 seconds (Autocar test 6/9/1975). I have no reliable magazine tests on the following and only about 150 to 200 were built but claims are: Caterham 7 1600 BDR = 5.3 seconds; Caterham 7 Superlight 1.6 = 4.7 sec, 50th Anniversary = 4.7 sec and Sigma 160 bhp 4.7 secs.2. Fastest to 1/4 mile (about 400 m): Lotus 7 or Caterham 7 and the 1558 cc Lotus Elan Sprint (Autocar test 11/2/1971) and the 1558 cc Lotus Europa Special (Motor test 6/1/1973) all doing around 14.9 to 15.0 seconds. No data for Caterhams, but they would be faster.3. Fastest to 100 mph (about 160 kph): 1588 cc Lotus Elan M100 turbo in 19.1 seconds (Motor Sport Dec 1990). In non turbo the 1558 cc Lotus Elan Sprint and the 1558 cc Lotus Europa Special in about 20.5 seconds. No data for Caterhams.4. Fastest top speed: 1588 cc Lotus Elan M100 Turbo claimed to do 135 mph (about 217 kph) but it is uncertain that any magazine took it to this speed except perhaps Motor Sport in December 1990. In non turbo the Lotus Elan Sprint, Lotus Europa Special and the Lotus Elan +2 all do around 121 mph ( about 195 kph).

When you hear M100 regarding a galaxy, it is likely referring to the Messier 100 galaxy. It was discovered by Pierre MÌ©chain and entered into Messier's catalog of nebulae and star clusters, which is where it got its name.
