In the U.S., orthopedic surgeons first do a pre med in college then take MCAT exam then apply to a medical school. After finishing 4 yrs of med achool, orthopedic surgeons must do an extra comprehensive five-year residency program.

Upon completing the residency, you will need to be board certified and meet the state's licensure requirements before practicing.
