A person can easily learn to install a carpet on line by looking at some tutorials on YouTube or reading up on the matter on 'Wikihow' or 'DIYNetwork'.

Why did the carpet installer quit his job? He just couldn't tack it anymore.
Normaly this is not repaired. Just floor over it.
You don't, if you want your carpet to stay stretched and flat on your floor. You see, laminate flooring is not attached to your floor in any way. It floats. The boards are locked together, but if you pull up on the side of a board, it will detach itself easily. So if you attach tack strips to that laminate and then stretch a carpet over it, the tension of the carpet will very likely pull your laminate up at the edges. To do this the right way, you'll need to remove the laminate flooring (you'll find this VERY easy to do), install tack strips to the subflooring, install carpet pad, and then carpet. It'll stay like it's supposed to.
yes you can it makes no difference {edit:} IF you are gluing the carpet to the laminate. But if you plan to install tack strip and stretch the carpet, you risk the tension of the carpet pulling up laminate boards at the edges.
I don't think folding is the right way to approach this transition. My carpet has a tack strip installed next to the tile and the carpet is cut so it lays right next to the tile edge. The tack strip holds it secure. There are also different joint transition trim pieces you can use if the height variation is to great. Check out Home Depot or Lowes.
First, I would recommend measuring the room to get the right size of carpet. Second, make sure that the floor is clean. Put down the padding first and tack it down, then the carpet, you will want to have a carpet stretcher handy. Make sure that the carpet is tight and them trim aound the edges.
Some places have certain stipulations for how often carpet must be replaced in a rental unit. Others will replace only when it is needed. Call someone locally to learn your tenant rights.
In order to lay carpet, tack strips are nailed all the way around the area to be carpeted. When you pull off that tack strip you will have a nice mess of holes that won't look good and will be hard to fix. Better to get large area rugs.
depending on how bad the burn is, you can try using a razor blade and just cut the top of the pile off the carpet. If its deep, you can cut it out, pulol the carpet off the tack strip at the end of a run, cut a small piece and glue it to the damaged section
You may have to find someone that can custom make that kind of bridle. You can start at your local tack store, they usually know of someone that makes custom tack.
