The axial connection is at the sternoclavicular joint, a gliding joint, which is where manubrium and the clavicle are attached. The appendicular connection is at the acromioclavicular joint, which is also a gliding joint, where the clavicle and the acromion process of the scapula are connected. In both of these places, the bones are held together with several strong ligaments to prevent their separation, but since they are not fused, and are joints, there is limited movement between the bones.
