Batman Animated was never a book, but there was a comic book series. Batman Animated was actually a cartoon that was originally aired on Fox Network from September 5, 1992 until Septemeber 15, 1995.
If you search "Batman: The Animated Series" on Hulu, you will see the twenty episodes from first season, and upon clicking the episode, you will be redirected to the Kids' WB website, and you can watch those episodes on the website. The only problem with doing this is that it you can only watch those twenty episodes. Theoretically, you could probably find the entire series through torrents, but that is technically illegal.
