he iPhone 4 screen is not compatible with the hardware of the iPhone 3GS. The Pin configuration and connector placement have been completely reworked, and the motherboard of the 3GS isn't going to support a screen above 320x480 pixels. The firmware is also completely incompatible with a retina display. I'm 100% sure this can't be done. Sorry to burst your bubble. Here's a side-by-side of the screens to show you the connector change. The first image is of the iPhone 4 screen, and the second is the iPhone 3GS.
