Where can one purchase a betta fish?

Pet stores are certainly best. You can ask them for a female betta. But if you want to go some place OTHER than a pet store, there are some good Web sites. www.aquabid.com sells some nice fish. www.BettySplendens.com sells show quality fish. Both websites will ship to your location. The fish do well in transit. I've had thousands shipped IN and OUT.

You can buy betta fish in any Wal-Mart that sells fish. You can also buy them at Neptune's Tropical Fish store. I suggest Neptune's because Wal-Mart has many sick and unhealthy fish but Neptune's has workers that actually went to school in order to learn how to take car of fish. Neptune's Tropical Fish store carries not only betta fish but also salt water fish that are SO beautiful and the fish at Neptune's are actually healthy! They also have Gold Fish, Betta's, Salt Water Fish, and many other extravigant fish species.

If you want to buy a healthy betta fish, you should go to any well-known pet store. NOT Walmart. I went to walmart last week, then i went there yesterday and they had the SAME fish in the SAME TINY bowl! the bowl had about an inch of water in it! Any well-known pet store would be good! There are many stores that you can get Betta fish. I got mine at petco, but when looking for one definitely make sure it doesn't have fin rot or ich, and if you want a young male, look for a Betta that is very colorful with shorter fin growth.

I have also seen Betta's at Wal-Mart, but i recommend getting hem from a nearby pet store.
