Not likely unless it is shorted. The alternator is where you start. Put a voltmeter across the battery to measure its' voltage. Have someone turn over the engine. When it is running the voltage should be higher than with the car off.
I would replace the control module within the distributor ( $ 25.00) It is not hard to do. This module is a microprocessor and as they age they are sensitive to heat. As you drive your car it warms up and shuts off.

yes if the truck have the electronic control module had to have it since 1975 they start putting ecu or computer on the cars but some people remove the smog system on some truck or cars because they say are classics but the government stop the classics cars in the 1976 OR 1977 after that every newer car had to have the original smog equipment
