Two reasons I know of. 1. Cards were used in many gambling games. Because gambling addictions can be extremely destructive, many Christians preached out against gambling and card games. Although card games don't have to involve gambling, they still got a bad rap just by association. 2. Cards were used in divination, which also gave them a bad rap. Of course, anything can be used for divination by someone who really wants to try, so this argument is also moot.
