Does asthma inhalers contain ethanol?

Asthma inhalers do not contain ethanol. If someone told you that they are incorrect so don't believe that person. Ethanol would harm the bronchioles of the lungs. To the contrary, there are four brands of albuterol inhalers. They are Ventolin HFA, Proventil HFA, Xopenex HFA and Proair HFA. Three of them contain Ethanol while one, Ventolin, does not. Clenil Modulite (A brown preventative inhaler): Each actuation (puff) from your inhaler contains about 9 mg of ethanol. That's what the leaflet that comes with the inhaler says. Apparently 9 mg of ethanol is equivalent to an actual volume of 0.011ml.

Which drugs cause a Breathalyzer false positive readings?

NoAdded: This is an old excuse and breathalyzer operators hear it probably several times a month. It is the amount of alcohol in the exhaled breath the machine measures, not the quality of one's respirations or the contents of the medication. It "affects" it only in the respect that the individual's impaired breathing function MAY make it more difficult to produce a proper 'blow.' But, if you can draw enough breath to sustain life, you can blow strongly enough to give a sample.YESUpdated 8/11/10: By federal mandate, the propellant used in asthma inhalers like Albuterol was changed from CFC propellant to HFA propellant. It should be known that HFA propellants have ethonol in them, and this can effect your breathalizer results if you had recently used your inhaler. IS IT SAFE and EVEN HEALTHFUL TO INHALE FINELY POWDERED SALT such as to alleviate or asthma?

As far as I know, you shouldn't inhale finely powdered salt. Please research the "salt pipe" or "salt inhaler". You do not inhale finely powerded salt in a salt pipt, you simply inhale through the pipe where the rock salts are stored... you only get molecule sized particles which are supposed to be healing and act as an anti-inflamatory. This is supposed to help asthma, over a period of time, to encourage healing of the lungs broncial tissues... It is NOT intended to replace a rescue inhaler... even if the new HFA inhalers do not work for you, as myself, and many others are reporting, thanks to the change of propellant, which is a known broncial constricter... smart eh?! I now have to carry a portable nebulizer because I am allergic to the corn based propellant in the HFA's are made from corn... ETHANOL. Hope this helps. PS. I am personally using a salt pipe. Although it has not completely healed my lungs... I do notice that when I use it faithfully on a daily basis... my asthma is not as severe. It is my hope to one day NOT have to carry my mini nebuliser with me everywhere I go!
