Yes, there are many free sites where people can search for answers in genealogy. Try Rootsweb, LostCousins, Familysearch, and Familypedia.

A couple of free genealogy searches are family tree maker and family search. Unfortunately, many places will say that they have "Found ancestors" for you, but hide them behind a pay wall.

There are many for-pay and free genealogical search sites on the internet. Use Google to search for "genealogy". Some of my favorite free sites are Family Search, RootsWeb and USGenWeb.

The US GenWeb Project is free and does not require a LogIn or Registration. Other genealogy websites that are free require a LogIn or Registration such as Family Search. Other genealogy websites such as Mocavo require a LogIn or Registration, but access to some of its information is free while other areas require a paid membership.

There are a huge number of free online family history websites. Start by downloading a free genealogy database program. Do a Google search for "free genealogy software." Most of the commercial genealogy programs have free versions available. Then consult the free FamilySearch.org Research Wiki for specific instructions how to begin. The startup page of the Research Wiki has detailed step-by-step instructions.
