It is thought that dobermans are bread from German Pinchers (very smart breed), German Herd Dogs, Great Danes, and Rottweilers. Of course without knowing for sure, there can be all kinds of combinations. I have 2 dobermans now, and have had 2 others (separate times) in the past. Through my personal research, I find these breeds to be most consistently mentioned in literature about dobermans. - also the breed has changed since it's arrival to America after WWII.
