To be able to beat red in Pokemon heartgold and soulsilver, all of your Pokemon should be at least level 80 and above, otherwise you'll find it hard. First of all, he starts of with a pikachu which is the highest leveled trainer Pokemon. Pikachu can be defeated with ground type moves such as earthquake The next Pokemon will be Venusaur level 84. Fire or flying type moves will work effectively. Next is Charizard, also at level 84. Water or rock type moves will work great against him. Then there's blastoise at level 84. Grass, electric and I think rock type moves will work. Lapras is up next at level 80. Rock type moves will be a big help. Then last but not least is his snorlax at level 82. Snorlax is a normal type moves, so a fighting type should be fine.
